Game 103 Recap: Pirates 5 Cubs 0

Burnett Falls 4 Outs Short of No-No, Bucs Win 5-0

WP: A.J. Burnett (13-3)
LP: Casey Coleman (0-2)

This game recapped itself, as A.J. Burnett didn't allow a hit until the 8th inning. The Pirates pretty much had the game in the bag after the first inning when Neil Walker hit his second career grand slam, both at Wrigley Field. But Burnett was straight dealing. He fanned 9 and walked just 2 in a complete game shutout. The only hit he allowed came from rookie pinch hitter Adrian Cardenas with 2 outs in the 8th.

Burnett was a little ticked off about two borderline calls during the at-bat with Cardenas, that would've lead to him striking out. In my opinion, when a VETERAN pitcher is up there against the ROOKIE PINCH HITTER in a situation like this, you expand the zone a little bit and give the benefit of the doubt to the pitcher. But this was not the case, and Cardenas ended up breaking up the no-no.

Burnett's reaction to the ump after the hit.
